InVeris Training Solutions, a provider of integrated live-fire and virtual weapons training systems for military, law enforcement agencies and commercial shooting ranges, has this week unveiled its SRCE (See, Rehearse, Collectively Experience) augmented reality (AR) based, untethered weapons training simulator.
“Augmented reality delivers the best of the virtual and real worlds in a way that’s fully lifelike, seamless, customizable and economical,” said InVeris CEO, Al Weggeman. “Physical training facilities can be scanned and augmented to become instant shoot houses by integrating outside content in just minutes. More importantly, we can compare and measure individual and team performance with high precision real-time location tracking of every participant, weapon and even ammunition round.”
SRCE’s proprietary scanning technology allows instructors to capture the space intended for use as a shoot house using a tablet or other device with a high-resolution camera. Hostile forces, suspects, decoys, hostages, and other parties can then all be delivered digitally, eliminating the need for opposition role players. As a result, InVeris states that SRCE’s ability to create a virtual shoot house on the fly lends to active shooter and mission rehearsal training.
Wearable, untethered technology, including an AR head-mounted display, provides realistic immersion without compromising freedom of movement and is fully compatible with InVeris’ BlueFire simulated weapons. The solution appears to utilize a modified Magic Leap 1 headset that includes the company’s proprietary scanning technology mounted on top. Other features and interaction capabilities of SRCE’s immersive environment include:
- Support of up to four trainees simultaneously in an actual or 3D virtual environment, posing realistic stress in a safe training setting;
- Allows participants to scan and train in rooms up to 100 square feet.
- All trainees see their own physical features, weapons and magazines, including their actual co-located training partners;
- Interactive and customizable avatars that can provide unexpected and adjustable training scenarios;
- High fidelity BlueFire weapons, including recoil, magazine replacement, weapon cant sensing, lockback and instructor-controlled simulated failures;
SRCE also includes an interactive after-action review (AAR) feature that collects performance data for statistical analysis, including muzzle direction, weapon discharge, missed rounds, eye tracking and head placement. Body sensors monitor a trainee’s heart rate, breathing, gaze and other biological signs in real-time. Trainees can even walk through their previous session, seeing every element played back around them as a visualization to review operational performance. As a result, the AAR further helps to improve training fidelity and retention by allowing the replay of various aspects of a training session, including:
- Multiple eyepoint views
- Multiple trainee views
- Birds eye view
- Moveable camera
- Barrel/muzzle tracking
- Shot trajectory
- Shot placement
- Trainee’s head direction
- Trainee’s eye gaze
- Active timeline
