Meta recently unveiled its Meta Quest 3 headset at its Connect developer conference, with an emphasis on entertainment and gaming. However, the company also sees potential applications for the workplace. In particular, the Quest 3’s pass-through function is designed to blend physical and digital environments.

Quest 3 opens up new possibilities for businesses, allowing them to reconsider how they approach work using a combination of mixed reality features, powerful specifications, and improved ergonomics. With the ability to create mixed reality experiences, companies can use the headset in situations where pass-through features are needed for security or functionality.

Quest 3’s hand-tracking features make it useful in scenarios where employees need to be hands-free or require tools, such as remote assistance. Potential applications for enterprise users include learning, training, 3D design and visualization, and to some extent, meetings and collaboration.

The Quest 3 headset offers several improvements compared to its predecessors, including a performance increase with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described it as the company’s most powerful headset to date. The device is available for pre-order and will begin shipping on October 10th.

The pass-through function in full color is a significant addition to Quest 3, allowing digital objects to be overlaid on the physical world, similar to augmented reality. This feature enhances collaboration on the workplace, making it more accessible. The Quest for Business management platform, compatible with Microsoft Intune and VMware Workspace One, was also announced, allowing IT administrators to manage users, apps, and devices for Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro products.
