The Verizon Wireless division announced a powerful videoconferencing solution for the Google Glass 2

Cloud-based video conferencing software developers Bluejeans is debuting an augmented reality (AR) video conferencing app for the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2.

The Verizon-owned firm is planning to release the collaboration solution in the first quarter of 2022, which will debut with an enterprise focus that connects global firms through Google’s Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered headset.

Hands-Free Collaboration Solution

The application uses Google Glass’ 8-megapixel cameras to stream a 720p HD video feed to conference participants, enabling remote collaboration and allowing conference members to see the wearer’s point of view (POV) to gain valuable and insightful information.

The Santana Row-based firm will also provide Google Glass wearers with upcoming features such as noise suppression and spatial audio from Dolby Voice, zooming, and adjustable brightness to spotlight an area in the user’s POV.

Bluejeans is adding voice recognition software that allows users to simply adjust and enhance the video for remote collaborators.

According to a statement from Bronson Gannon, Senior Product Marketing Manager at BlueJeans by Verizon, the feed will facilitate better decision making as team members performing audits or working on designs can instantly connect with global partners to receive remote assistance.

We are excited to deliver an enterprise-grade video experience that will help organizations accelerate digital transformation and drive toward more productive outcomes”

Digital Transformations and The Future for Remote Collaboration

The solution comes as digital transformations rapidly advance enterprise collaborations and, in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many firms turn to extended reality (XR) solutions.

LyondellBasell is increasing efficiency and reducing facility downtime with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Hololens 2, a pair of solutions that can save “$93,000 in annual labor and travel costs per expert” according to a study by Microsoft.

Similarly, Serbia-based Hemofarm pharmaceuticals used Microsoft’s Hololens 2 to improve communication, engineering efforts, and maintenance with great success during the pandemic.

Aside from Microsoft’s XR solutions, hardware vendors such as Lenovo and PTC have also launched digital transformations to back millions of frontline workers as hybrid working environments expand.
