New shared AR games have also been announced.

The Minnesota Twins baseball team is expanding its collaboration with smartphone-based augmented reality (AR) platform ARound to bring AR-powered statistics and new AR mini-games to Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to an official release.

The partnership was originally announced back in 2022. This second iteration will introduce real-time player and team data visualizations powered by Sportradar. Upon logging into the ARound app and holding up their smartphones, attendees can view advanced statistics and historical data layered directly over the field.

Not only that, this latest update introduces new Target-themed in-ballpark AR games. Aimed at younger audiences, these interactive experiences promise increased fan engagement, according to ARound.

“We are thrilled to introduce our fans to this next-level experience that will resonate with avid and casual fans alike,” said Chris Iles, Minnesota Twins senior director of innovation and growth, in an official release.

“These broadcast-style data visualizations served in real-time, and customized to where fans are in Target Field, have the potential to significantly enhance the way fans enjoy Twins games while bridging generations of baseball fans.”

“We’ve made incredible inroads in shared AR since piloting this app with the Twins last August, consistently refining the platform in response to fan and team feedback,” added Josh Beatty, founder and CEO of ARound.

“Incorporating stats into the experience was a frequent request. Now, as we enter our second season with the Twins, we’re excited to bring forward a more advanced experience, integrating richer visualizations and AR entertainment to captivate fans of all kinds.”
