Track your estimated calories burned and total minutes spent working out in VR straight from your smart device.

Meta (formerly Facebook) today announced a new update for its VR fitness app Oculus Move that will allow you to track your workouts outside of your VR headset for the very first time. At the moment, checking your stats means slipping on your Meta Quest or Meta Quest 2 headset and opening the Oculus Move app in VR.

This upcoming update will allow you to access that same information via the official Oculus app on compatible iOS and Android devices, no headset required.

By connecting Oculus Move to the Oculus app, you’ll be able to check everything from estimated calories burned and total minutes spent working out in VR to the various fitness goals you’ve set straight from your smart device. Of course, pairing Oculus Move with your app is entirely optional. As a result, you’ll need to manually opt-in.

Oculus Move can be found in your default library. Those using the app for the first time will be guided through a brief tutorial explaining how your progress is tracked.

Meta has also announced additional support for Apple Health. Those with an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch will soon have the ability to pair Oculus Move with their Apple Health account, allowing them to track their workout progress both inside and outside VR without having to manually input data. Similar to the Oculus app, you’ll need to manually opt-in in order to pair your Apple Health account.

According to Meta, these new features are scheduled to arrive on Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2 next month as part of a free update. For more information visit here.
