To Improve Access To Integrative Health Tools & Services

OVR Technology, Leaders in Multi-Sensory VR, Released New Product on Mental Health Action Day

Vermont Business Magazine OVR Technology (ovrtechnology.com(link is external)), a leader in multisensory VR/AR in Burlington, has announced the release of its INHALE Wellness Platform, the first in a series of tools that work toward creating greater access to evidence-based integrative health tools for both care providers and patients. OVR Technology has partnered with several content leaders to develop each aspect of the INHALE platform, and looks forward to working with more on subsequent product releases. The announcement comes on the first-ever Mental Health Action Day (hosted by MTV Entertainment Group), during which OVR Technology joins 500 brands, nonprofits, government agencies, and leaders to drive culture from mental health awareness to mental health action.

The INHALE Wellness Platform combines the benefits of mindfulness, breathwork, and meditation with the next generation of aromatherapy and digital therapeutics. It includes a head-mounted display (Pico Interactive’s Neo family of headsets), OVR Technology’s ION device, and scent cartridges as well as several scent-focused nature scenes developed by content partner Lost Eagle, complemented by guided meditations inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh.

„OVR Technology has combined the best-in-class tools to bring this experience to VR, and we are proud to be included in such a unique offering,“ said Luke Farrer, CEO at Lost Eagle Studios(link is external)

The ION, developed by OVR Technology, is the most accurate and precise on-mask scent technology currently available. The scents include tropical beach, fresh cut grass, northern pine forest, Atlantic ocean breeze, wildflower fields, and lush woodlands and are all originally created by OVR Technology at its laboratory in Burlington, Vermont. The technology is such that it can intelligently create dozens of olfactory experiences.

“Smell, or olfaction, is the only sense directly connected to the limbic system of the brain, where our memories and emotions live; it also plays a critical role in human motivation and behavior,” said Aaron Wisniewski, CEO and co-founder of OVR Technology. “That makes it an extremely important aspect of outcome-oriented VR experiences and especially relevant as an affordable and scalable tool to enhance access to integrative health, mental health, and wellbeing management.” Wisniewski is also a co-author of the recently published Applied Virtual Reality in Healthcare: Case Studies and Perspectives.

OVR Technology’s INHALE Wellness Platform places users in an immersive, three-dimensional environment and simulates a relaxing and tranquil setting. As users interact with the virtual environment, corresponding scents are precisely released, mimicking scent as it arises and dissipates in the real world. Studies show that olfactory-visual stimulation positively affects emotion and memory, which can be an important aide and support in the process of mitigating the negative effects of psychological and social issues, such as stress, to enhance wellbeing.

“Olfactory virtual reality can provide a nurturing and effective approach to therapy that supports wellbeing,” said Dr. David Låg Tomasi, DSc HC, PhD, EdD- PhD, MA, MCS, AAT, psychotherapist and research director of inpatient psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical Center. OVR recently partnered with Tomasi on a study investigating olfaction-visual stimulation delivered via virtual reality to patients living with mental health conditions.

OVR Technology collaborates with a range of content developers to leverage the pioneering possibilities of VR/AR for health, wellbeing, and social good. The company has also joined forces with several academic partners on forthcoming health and wellbeing programs and research.
