The recent PwC VR summit has highlighted some recent changes within the VR space that I was otherwise not aware of. It would be impossible to bottle the magic of the week in one LinkedIn post; so… instead I will give you my reasons to consider Virtual reality for your next training experience.

  • It’s affordable. A headset will now set you back around half the price of an iPhone. And sure, you can still pay a lot for a vendor to create you a very high quality bespoke VR experience which I would recommend if your budgets allow. But even those with a smaller budget can start to create amazing VR experiences that learners will love.
  • It’s simple to build your own content. There are very effective tools out there that allow you to build your own VR experiences for a fraction of the cost of going externally. Many of these tools have a skill requirement similar to that of PowerPoint so it really is accessible to everyone. And for those who hire the right type of wizards then there’s way more advanced tools out there for building more advanced content.
  • It’s effective. Studies have been carried out to estimate the value VR has and will continue to have in the future – #seeingisbelieving Other studies have shown that learners demonstrated 340% more confidence to employ what they learned in VR vs traditional training method, the full study is yet to be released by PwC. I have seen first hand how learners react to this stuff. And trust me, learners don’t usually smile that much after finishing an e-learning course.
  • No distractions. Your learners will have far fewer distractions because the learning content is literally strapped to their face. Therefore reducing the overall length of training and who doesn’t want that?

VR is not a gimmick, it’s a genuine method of training employees that should not only be considered but in many cases prioritised.

Those are my thoughts about VR, what’s your opinion?
