VRpilot, a Danish company that designs, develops and sells virtual reality (VR) training applications for use by airlines and air forces, has recently announced that Sun Country Airlines, an ultra-low cost airline based in Minneapolis, MN, has chosen VRpilot’s interactive procedure training solution for its B737NG pilot training operation.

According to VRpilot, the agreement is aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency, effectiveness and quality of Sun Country Airlines’ pilot training program. VRpilot added that its ‘VRflow’ procedure training platform, which is a supplemental part of its training curriculums for its customers, will provide Sun Country pilots with a highly realistic and engaging VR training experience.

“The integration of VRpilot’s VRflow platform will bring additional automation to our pilot training program and will greatly benefit our pilots’ training experience,” said Joe Romuld, Manager of Pilot Training-Ground, at Sun Country Airlines. “As our airline continues to grow, we are increasing our available training resources and virtual reality is an exciting addition.”

VRpilot’s B737NG cockpit procedure trainer is centered around an accurate 3D model of a B737NG cockpit (shown above). The virtual cockpit responds and behaves like a real aircraft would (including with sounds, lights and screens) in order to provide users with a realistic training environment.

Based on generic OEM procedures, pilots can use VRpilot’s platform to train for a range of scenarios, from normal procedures including electrical power up, preliminary preflight, engine start, takeoff, and more; to non-normal procedures, such as rejected takeoff, engine failure, and emergency descents.

Commenting on the partnership, Daniel Maass, CEO of VRpilot said: “We are thrilled to partner with Sun Country Airlines and support their dedication to pilot training excellence. Our VRflow platform offers a comprehensive and immersive training experience, and we are confident it will significantly benefit Sun Country’s B737 operation.”
